How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!- Psalm 133:1
There has been an abundance of news about division in our world, country and community. Perhaps you have felt the pain and brokenness of it. Or maybe you’ve become annoyed with your neighbor, who thinks differently than you. The night before Jesus was crucified, he prayed for his disciples. He asked God to protect them, sanctify them and to make them one. Then he prayed for people who would believe in Him in the future. It was a prayer for us. This prayer of unity encourages us to not to be divided, but to be God’s light by being one in Christ.
“I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:20-23
Discouragement, grief and anger arise during times of division. Take heart, Jesus prayed for us to be one and God’s word shares how to be united. Let’s share the hope of unity and God’s love with others.
