We had a very successful Servant Day after a 2-year hiatus due to COVID. We estimate that between 75-80 people attended and still others helped with planning, providing Thrivent grant support, and other tasks. We got a lot of good work done!
Here are the projects that we worked on this year:
- 10 Welcome Home kits for Habitat for Humanity's new homeowners. These kits of cleaning supplies and equipment will help families get off to a great start in their new home.
- A group of gals worked on the quilts for JOY's graduating seniors
- Several stitchers got together to make pocket crosses for people who need a portable prayer and others took home kits to make more.
- We created 50 kits to provide personal hygiene supplies and snacks for people on street corners.
- The Buildings and Grounds committee and Joy volunteers, along with the Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts and their parents, dug out and replaced landscape fabric and rock along the parking lot.
- Our breakfast crew provided a tasty buffet for about 75 volunteers.
- We did spring lawn cleanup for four yards of congregation members who needed assistance.
- Our shoe drive for Soles4Souls collected 450 pairs in just three weeks!
- We created care packages for 12 college students to help them through the craziness of finals week.
- We got a start on deep cleaning the kitchen in the fellowship hall.
- Our project to create apartment bins for refugees for Lutheran Family Services was slow getting started due to a hiccup with the Thrivent grant but will be completed later.
We'd like to thank all of the people who helped support Servant Day, by leading projects, volunteering, or helping with obtaining Thrivent Action Team Grants to help support our projects. We could not do it without you!
